Everyone that knows me will tell you I'm not the fondest fan of Microsoft, in fact I'd go out of my way to stay clear of them, which makes me rather sad that I'm quite enjoying playing with Vista. Suffice to say, they're moving in the right direction.
Still, Vista is vastly overdue, and many of the intended features have been jetisoned along the way in the hope it finally touches down sometime this year. Microsoft's business decisions leave much to be desired, most notably the 6 different versions in which Vista will guise, and the severly limited version intended for 'emerging markets', AKA, poorer Countries.
However those of us fortunate enough to own a respectively fast machine and a decent graphics card, and willing to fork out for the premium versions, are in for quite a ride. The latest build, 5308, is 'Feature Complete', meaning all the main features have been included (bar one), and later versions are likely to contain only bug fixes and clean-ups.
For a closer look you can see some of my screenshots here , although I was a little dismayed my GeForce 4800 doesn't cut the mustard and I had to make-do without the transclucent effects and fancy 3D alt-tab switcher. Still, it looks pretty spanky, and finally gives me a reason to save up for that GeForce 6800.
I'm sad to say it, but I'm looking forward to the official release.
