Vista Woes PDF Print E-mail

Here I am again for my monthly update!

I really need to find more time to blog. Once a month is pitiful. So, what's my problem with Vista? Typical Linux incompatibility that's what.

Gnome has a pretty good disc burning tool built in. If you pop a blank disc into the drive it notices and provides a virtual directory you can drag and drop files into. Once you're happy with the layout you can burn the virtual folder onto the disc. Simple.

Vista has a similar option, pop a disc in and it'll pop up a window providing various tasks, one of which is burn files. It all goes down hill from here. Choosing to burn files formats the disc. Assuming you had the wrong disc in the drive, or that you decide not to burn anything, tough luck, it has already formatted the disc.

But we do want to burn files, so we drag and drop them into the virtual folder. Unlike Gnome however, Vista thinks it is better to write the files as you drag them in, not on command. Selected the wrong files? Tough luck, they're burning already.

But we have selected the right files. We're all set. The disc is burning. Great, now let us take it home and insert it onto our Linux machine. Aaah, Linux you say? Sorry, we don't support Linux, you can't use this disc in it. But what about those industry standard specifications for writing discs so they work in a multitude of devices? Well, that's okay as long as it's a device running Microsoft, or so Microsoft would rather you believe.

So, Gnome 4 - Vista 0.

What makes me sad is Microsoft deliberately make it difficult, if not impossible to adopt Linux. Sheer monopoly and back-handed measures like these make sure of that. Microsoft, meh.

yeap...I switch to linux full time a few months ago...and have never been happier...it (ubuntu) is almost good enough to install on my mum's machine...xkcd was right in his comic the other day...it will be 10 years but..ms os will be gone...

linux/unix and mac os evolve each version...windows is just a brand new hairball each time...now they are scrapping vista and building windows version 7...so by the time everyone is used to vista...they will completley change the design...in all aspects...
2. Vista is Satan's spawning ground

:roll It is well known that Microsoft is sponsored by Satan. Vista is designed to prepare the world for Armageddon, and it does this well. By preventing communication between peoples with its odd standards, it allows misunderstanding to flourish, whilst even the most steadfast God botherer has been seen to curse and swear when presented with this pile of steaming camel doo doos.. The reason God hurried to make the world in six days is that He was trying to stay ahead of Vista's formatting routines, whilst also attempting to complete it before the Earth stopped responding whilst paging RAM. In fact, looking at pagan history, the ram was always a sign of ill doing - no coincidence I fear?
