I haven't really kept abrest of the Battlefield games as my gfx card doesn't support it, but it would seem everyone's ranting on about them. I am an avid gamer though, and have long been a fan of the Unreal series and RTCW/Enemy Territory. So, when I found a little app that would let me play BF2 on my aging GeForce 4, I thought I'd give it a whirl :D

Okay, I'll admit the graphics are a little poor -- some of the grass mounds look like something from a 486, but no-one said it would be pretty. It does works though, and were it not for the fact BF2 uses newer vertex shaders (1.4) it would have run fine on older (1.3) version cards. I suppose the line has to be drawn somewhere, and my card is a little old now, but it would have been nice to see some backward compatability support/patches.

You can download the widget here, readme included. I'll add some screenshots to the gallery later so you can see what's in store.

It is a great game and the rantings are truly justified. I can see what I'm missing out on now, and it makes me want to upgrade all the more. It looks like Gainward have the best offering at the moment, 7800GS Silent 512MB GS+, only 1,500 made and currently the fastest AGP card on the planet. That should keep me going until I upgrade to PCI-E -- now to find the cash.

Anyone want an Xbox / PSP? Smiley
