I was downloading a file in Firefox yesterday and, much to my dismay, it b0rked when it was coming to a close. Firefox started to consume all the processor and things went downhill from there.
No problem I thought, dutily forcing a reboot. I restarted Firefox and navigated to the Downloads pane -- It was then I noticed the processor going wild again, **** I thought. Yep, Firefox Download cache was screwed. I deleted it and all was well. I decided to have a look-see at the file anyhow. I started Windows Explorer and navigated to C:\Temp -- wait -- wait -- wait -- processor going wild -- ****... Somehow the filesystem had screwed. Renaming or opening the file caused a crash. A short file-system scan later and reboot into safe-mode and I was able to delete said file -- but it didn't end there. Loading Dreamweaver wasn't working -- it just exited immediately. Okay, this was really starting to annoy me. Somehow the site definitions had screwed and I had to remove the registry entries and re-define all my sites again. So the moral to this woeful tale, backup, backup, backup! </whine>
